Network Operation Center

MNSB currently manages and operates the enhanced MYREN Network service which will serve as a platform for the consortium of public university holding companies.
MNSB acted as coordinators and administrators for MoHE through MYREN Network Operations Center (NOC). MYREN NOC is responsible for managing, regulating, monitoring the operations and activities of the MYREN network which consists of connections to higher educational institutions and connections to the upstream links (GTT, TM, TEIN, MyIX, Google and MyGovnet).
Specifically provide traffic segregation between Internet and education traffics to ensure a fast, highly reliable and secure connection in a dedicated network segment reserved for the use of education and research communities only.
MYREN NOC acts as the main point that manages and mobilizes all MYREN network operations operations to 166 members throughout Malaysia.
Responsibilities
These are MYREN NOC's key responsibilities
- Manage, regulate, and monitor the operation and activity of MYREN network connectivity for public universities, polytechnics, community colleges, teaching hospitals, a few governments linked universities and government agencies.
- Ensure the availability of network capacity, security and quality of service.
- Devise an implementation plan, including upgrades, detailed technical specifications towards improving MYREN’s infrastructure.
- Provide advice and technical assistance to communities in the planning and implementation of any technology and applications in the relevant institutions.
- Monitor and supervise MYREN network services with respect to its international networks to TEIN, MyIX and Tier-1 ISP to ensure they operate optimally.
- Ensure the safety of the NOC and MYREN network to mitigate any security threats from impacting MYREN network.
- Furnish quarterly report of MYREN NOC operational activities or on as needed basis.
- Administer management and resources of the IP addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) within MYREN network.
- Manage, assist, coordinate, and carry out services related to any network activities within the MYREN user community.
- To enhance and promote awareness and utilisation of MYREN in Malaysia and abroad, particularly among the education and research communities.
- Provide technical advisory and facilitate cooperation to MYREN members, its entity/community of research and education users both locally and in collaboration with international communities, such as through APNIC, NSRC, etc.).
- Assist the Ministry in fulfilling its commitment for International collaboration with TEIN and other National Research and Education Network (NREN) through various event including Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN), meetings, workshops, seminars, symposiums etc.
- Manage enquiries from international partner of NRENs.
- Conduct technical training series on MYREN to provide a constant and regular learning opportunity for its user community, to learn the technical aspects of network management and services, as well as to encourage and promote the use of MYREN.
- Student experience – Offering educational visit to give an opportunity to relate the classroom learning to the real-world situation, to meet expert personalities in the field of work to interact and learn from experiences.

Network Consultancy
MYREN NOC provides advice and technical assistance to communities in the planning and implementation of any technology and applications, advanced functions such as IPv6 operations, Software Defined Network (SDN), mobility through eduroam systems and Virtual Private Network (VPN) without cost increase.
Video Conferencing
BigBlueButton (is an open-source web conferencing system for online learning. It supports real-time sharing of audio, video, slides (with whiteboard controls), chat, and the screen. Instructors can engage remote students with polling, emojis, multi-user whiteboard, and breakout rooms.
Cloud Services
MYREN Cloud is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for user.
MYREN Cloud allows user to obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction. It provides user with complete control of computing resources and lets user run on a proven computing environment. MYREN Cloud reduces the time required to obtain and boot new server instances to minutes, allowing quickly scale capacity, both up and down, as computing requirements change.

eduroam
eduroam (education roaming) is a free, secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. It provides users with authenticated network logon and access to the internet through a single wifi profile and set of credentials, at any participating organisations.

NRENum.net
NRENum is a DNS infrastructure that provides ENUM* protocol for academies. Managed by GÉANT it was designed to enable users to have an easy dialing mechanism to interconnect VoIP / Videoconferencing solutions and more. *ENUM: It’s a technology standard used to translate telephone numbers into URL addresses (a domain name)
