Who is MNSB
MYREN Network Sdn Bhd (MNSB) a subsidiary company of UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd (UHSB) was formed as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the consortium of Malaysian public university holding companies that will manage and operate the enhanced MYREN network service called MYREN-X.
After almost 10 years in operation, the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) conducted a study of MYREN. MOHE decided that strategically the service should be in alignment with the aspirations set forth in the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education).
MYREN will be operated in the form of an ISP specifically for the Malaysian higher education and research institutions, managed by a consortium of public universities. It will be a high-capacity network that is “for university, by university.” MOHE takes the cue from similar initiatives that have taken place in the United States of America through the Internet2 consortium and in Australia through the AarNet consortium.
The involvement of public universities in the consortium through their respective holding companies is potentially seen as able to provide returns over the long term, hence broadening the university’s earning resources and reducing their funding reliance on public finances alone.
MNSB will offer high-speed and high-capability MYREN-X services such as platforms for research tools, educational applications, Data Centres (DC), Disaster Recovery (DR) and Public Internet access. The company is in the position to offer these full range of services since it has been awarded the Network Facilities Provider (NFP), Network Service Provider (NSP) and Application Service Provider (ASP) licenses by the Malaysian government in October 2016.
